BATESVILLE — Temperatures and humidity are forecast to climb across much of Arkansas this weekend, with heat indices creating uncomfortable and potentially dangerous conditions for outdoor activity.
Forecasters say highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s Saturday and Sunday in many areas, including Northeast Arkansas. Combined with rising humidity, the feels-like temperature could push into the mid to upper 90s, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion — especially during the first significant heat wave of the season when residents are not yet acclimated.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms remain possible, particularly Saturday morning and night, though coverage is expected to be hit-and-miss. Sunday looks mostly dry with the warmest temperatures of the weekend.
Residents in Independence County are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Heat safety is especially important for those working or exercising outside.
A slight cooldown with lower humidity is expected early next week.
For the latest forecasts, Independence County residents can monitor local conditions through the National Weather Service or area news sources.
