Madison County, AR – A Mountain Home school bus transporting 16 band students collided with a passenger vehicle Saturday afternoon, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to five people, according to the Arkansas State Police (ASP).
The crash occurred around 3:20 p.m. on January 10 at the intersection of State Highway 45 and U.S. Highway 412 near Hindsville/Huntsville. The bus, carrying members of the Mountain Home Bomber band who had participated in an event earlier that day, was struck by a 2020 Mini Cooper.
ASP reports that three students from the bus and two of the four adults in the Mini Cooper were transported to a hospital in Springdale for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was not injured.
Mountain Home Public Schools Superintendent Allyson Dewey released a statement expressing gratitude for the bus driver’s quick response and noting that everyone involved was shaken up. Initially, plans were made to send another bus, but Huntsville Schools stepped in to transport the students safely home.
The Arkansas State Police Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the collision.
No further details on the students’ conditions or the exact circumstances leading to the crash have been released as the investigation continues.
