Human Remains Discovered in Sharp County, Investigation Underway

SHARP COUNTY, Ark. – Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered in a wooded area in southwest Sharp County.

According to the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call on March 19 regarding the discovery of a skull and vertebrae near a residence on Cougar Road. The remains were found uphill from a stream near Caney Creek.

A follow-up search on March 26, conducted by authorities alongside a K9 team from Jonesboro, led to the discovery of additional bones. Officials also noted that a recent burn-off had occurred on the property earlier in the month, and a portion of the skull appeared to have been affected by the fire.

At this time, the identity and sex of the victim remain unknown. Evidence collected at the scene has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further analysis as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

Authorities urge anyone with information related to this case to come forward as the investigation continues.
