A devastating house fire on Rosewood Street destroyed a residence late Sunday night, Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery confirmed.
The fire at 135 Rosewood was first reported at 8:28 p.m., with Northside Fire Department crews working tirelessly in harsh conditions, including heavy winds and snow flurries, to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters remained on the scene until 11 p.m.
However, flames reignited at approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday, prompting firefighters to return and continue their efforts until 2 a.m.
No serious injuries were reported, though one resident received on-site medical attention for an unrelated issue from VitalLink paramedics.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by a space heater, according to Judge Jeffery. The home has been declared a total loss, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
