Batesville Man and Beloved Community Figure Killed in Fiery Collision on Hwy. 69

On the morning of October 22, 2024, a tragic accident claimed the life of Malcom “Mickey” Hix III, a lifelong Batesville resident, on Highway 69 near Newark. The accident occurred when the 2006 Kenworth truck he was driving collided with a 2021 Peterbilt attempting to turn left out of a private driveway. Both vehicles caught fire after the impact. Arkansas State Police reported clear weather and dry road conditions at the time.

Mickey Hix, 49, was born on March 7, 1975, in Batesville, Arkansas. Despite being born three months premature, Mickey thrived throughout his life, filled with an adventurous spirit that led him to pursue a variety of interests. A beloved figure in the community, he was known for his warm smile, boundless energy, and his dedication to both family and friends. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, adventure, and an infectious love for life.

Hix was baptized as a Catholic and was fiercely devoted to his family. He began working at the age of 15 alongside his father at White River Bituminous, where he quickly mastered heavy machinery. However, his true passion lay in truck driving, which he pursued as his primary career. He drove both local and long-haul routes, becoming a skilled and respected figure in the trucking community.

Mickey’s hobbies were as diverse as they were numerous. From playing guitar and singing to hunting, fishing, and even obtaining his pilot’s license, he lived life to its fullest. He was also a certified gun instructor and a passionate motorcycle and 4-wheeler enthusiast. Most of all, he cherished his role as a father to his three children and as a loving husband to his wife, Tiffany.

Mickey’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, including his father, wife Tiffany, daughters Leandra and Joshlyn, son Malcom IV, and his four grandchildren, as well as his sisters Tammy and Samantha. His legacy will live on through the memories and the love of those he touched.

Services for Malcom “Mickey” Hix III will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Willis Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., followed by an informal service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Veterans Service Dogs and Diabetic Service Dogs, causes dear to his heart.

Mickey’s remarkable life reminds all who knew him to embrace adventure, love deeply, and always be ready to help a friend in need. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and the Batesville community.
