U.S. Marshals Seek Armed White County Fugitive Accused of Shooting Brother

WHITE COUNTY, Ark. — The U.S. Marshals Service is asking for the public’s help locating April Dawn Whitehurst, a White County woman wanted on charges of first-degree domestic battery and possession of a firearm by certain persons after authorities say she shot her brother.

Whitehurst, considered armed and dangerous, is wanted by the White County Sheriff’s Office. She is also accused of making threats against law enforcement.

According to Jeremy Hammons, Deputy U.S. Marshal with the Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force, deputies responded to a residence on May 24 following reports of a shooting. Investigators say Whitehurst and her brother were involved in a physical altercation in the front yard. Whitehurst went inside, retrieved a handgun, returned outside and shot her brother in the hip.

The brother’s injuries were not life-threatening. The case was turned over to the Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force due to Whitehurst’s criminal history and reported threats to shoot it out with officers if cornered.

Hammons said Whitehurst has a history of violence, including a prior incident involving an Arkansas Game and Fish officer.

“She’s made comments that if she were to be cornered by law enforcement that she would shoot it out with them,” Hammons said.

Whitehurst is featured on the task force’s Most Wanted list. She is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

The U.S. Marshals Service has received several tips and is following leads. Anyone who sees her is urged not to approach and to call 9-1-1 immediately. Tips can also be provided to the Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force. All information will be kept confidential.
