Stormy Weather Possible Friday Near Batesville

Batesville, Ark. — A weather system bringing a mix of conditions is expected to affect areas near Batesville on Friday, May 16, 2025, according to the National Weather Service. A stalled weather front stretching from the Ozarks to the Ohio Valley will likely trigger thunderstorms by late afternoon, with the potential for strong or severe storms in parts of Arkansas.

Warm, moist air flowing from the south will push this front northward, acting like a warm front and setting the stage for storm development. Winds higher up in the atmosphere, blowing at 40-50 knots (about 45-55 mph), could help storms form as individual cells at first, possibly growing into larger clusters by evening. These storms may bring heavy rain, strong winds, or even hail in some areas.

Forecasters aren’t entirely sure where the strongest storms will hit because it depends on how much storm activity happens early Friday morning. Some weather models suggest morning storms could be lighter, allowing the front to move farther north and increase the chance of severe weather closer to Batesville. Other models predict slower movement, keeping the worst storms farther south. To account for both possibilities, the National Weather Service has expanded the area under a 15% risk for severe weather, including parts of North Arkansas.

Residents in Batesville and surrounding areas should stay alert Friday afternoon and evening. Keep an eye on weather updates, as conditions could change quickly. Have a plan to seek shelter if severe weather approaches, and avoid outdoor activities during stormy periods. For the latest forecasts, visit weather.gov or tune into local news.
