Officers Jesse Hurtado and Zachary Nelson

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Authorities in Little Rock have confirmed that the suspect involved in a New Year’s Day stabbing incident, which led to an officer-involved shooting, was the son of one of the victims.

The Little Rock Police Department responded to a report of an assault on the 2100 block of State Street at approximately 8:25 p.m. on January 1. Upon arrival, officers discovered a car had crashed into a nearby home, causing a gas leak and prompting an evacuation of residents in the area.

Inside the home, officers found 64-year-old Mary Ann Hansen deceased, the result of multiple stab wounds. While securing the scene, detectives located another woman who had also been stabbed multiple times. She was transported to a local hospital and remains in serious but stable condition.

Suspect Located and Killed in Confrontation

Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Sidney Glasper, who was found walking on South Broadway Street covered in blood. Investigators later determined that Glasper was the son of the woman who survived the attack.

Officers reported that Glasper was armed and refused multiple commands to drop his weapon as he approached them. When he continued to advance, officers fired their weapons, fatally wounding him. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Glasper was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers Involved

The Little Rock Police Department identified the officers involved in the shooting as Officer Jesse Hurtado and Officer Zachary Nelson. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbings and the events leading up to the shooting have not yet been released.
