Pocahontas Community Mourns Tragic Loss of Mother and Son

POCAHONTAS, Ark. – The Pocahontas community is in mourning following the tragic loss of a beloved mother and son. On Monday, Nov. 4, authorities discovered the bodies of Hanna Dawsey, her son Asher Dawsey, and husband Nick Dawsey, who police say took his own life after taking theirs.

Fourteen-year-old Asher was a student at Pocahontas School District and a dedicated member of the school band. Hanna Dawsey worked at St. Bernards and was cherished by friends and family.

The impact of the Dawsey family was deeply felt across the community. Melania Stutts, whose son Nathaniel Bailey was Asher’s close friend, spoke warmly of their bond. “That bond they had was like no other,” Stutts said. “They were always laughing.” She added that the Dawsey family treated Nathaniel as one of their own, and Hanna’s affection for him was boundless.

Nathaniel shared that both the school and the wider community feel the weight of this loss. In a heartfelt tribute to Asher, Pocahontas School District honored him at Thursday night’s game against Highland by wearing blue and distributing blue ribbons to remember their friend.
