Lyon College Invites Public to Visiting Fulbright Scholar’s Presentations

BATESVILLE, Arkansas — Lyon College will welcome Dr. Hasini R. Perera, a Fulbright Scholar and professor of chemistry at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka, for a weeklong visit to campus Feb. 2-6 as part of the Fulbright Scholar Program Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF).

Dr. Perera’s visit highlights Lyon College’s commitment to global engagement and academic collaboration, as well as the Fulbright Scholar Program’s mission to foster international exchange through education and research.

During her time on campus, Dr. Perera will share her expertise in electroanalytical chemistry, discuss her experiences as a Fulbright Scholar, and engage with students, faculty and staff through a series of public lectures and academic events.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, at noon, Dr. Perera will deliver a chemistry guest lecture titled “Electroanalytical Methods: Principles and Real-World Applications” in Nucor Auditorium in the Lyon Business and Economics Building. This lecture is open to all campus members and will highlight how foundational electroanalytical principles are applied to real scientific and societal challenges.

Later that day at 4 p.m., Dr. Perera will present “Bridging Research and Cultural Exchange: My Journey as a Fulbright Scholar” during a Fulbright Program information session, also in Nucor Auditorium. Hosted by Lyon College Fulbright Scholar liaisons Dr. Wesley Beal and Dr. Matthew Lebrato, the session will conclude with a question-and-answer period for those interested in applying for Fulbright Scholar awards.

Dr. Perera will serve as the featured speaker for Lyon College’s Research Convocation on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 4 p.m. in Nucor Auditorium. Her presentation, “Electroanalytical Chemistry in Action: Applications Across Health, Environment and Technology,” will examine the wide-ranging impact of electroanalytical chemistry across multiple disciplines. The convocation is free and open to the public.

In addition to her academic engagements, Dr. Perera plans to visit FutureFuel and Lifeplus as part of Lyon College’s community partner outreach initiatives, strengthening connections between international scholarship, industry, and regional partners.

Members of the campus and community are invited to welcome Dr. Perera during her visit and help make her time at Lyon College a memorable one.
