INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, Ark. — Highway 167 at Ramsey Mountain will be temporarily closed Tuesday evening as emergency crews work to recover a semi truck and trailer that went off the roadway early that morning, county officials announced.
The closure will begin at 6 p.m., allowing heavy wreckers and recovery equipment to move into position. Once the initial setup is complete, crews plan to reopen one lane so traffic can be routed around the recovery operation while work continues.
The crash happened around 2:18 a.m., when a northbound semi failed to navigate the curve and went over the edge of Ramsey Mountain. Independence County Judge Kevin Jeffery said the truck fell an estimated 50 feet before coming to rest — remarkably, still upright.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses told authorities the truck appeared to make no attempt to turn at the curve before leaving the roadway.
Recovery crews are expected to remain on scene into the night as they work to safely remove the truck and trailer from the steep embankment. Officials urge drivers to use caution, expect delays, and consider alternate routes if possible.
The Batesville Tribune will update this story as additional information becomes available.
