Flood Warning in Effect for Black River at Black Rock Until January 9

The National Weather Service in Little Rock has extended the Flood Warning for the Black River at Black Rock, impacting Lawrence, Independence, and Jackson Counties. Minor flooding is currently occurring, with additional flooding forecast over the next few days.


Current Conditions and Forecast

At 9:00 AM CST Saturday, the river stage was recorded at 16.6 feet, above the flood stage of 14.0 feet. Minor flooding is expected to continue, with the river forecasted to fall below flood stage late Tuesday evening. By Thursday morning, levels are expected to recede to approximately 12.1 feet.


Impacts of Flooding

When the river reaches 17.0 feet, low-lying agricultural land and pastures in Lawrence, Jackson, and Independence Counties experience flooding. Residents and farmers in these areas should take necessary precautions to protect property and livestock from rising waters.

Motorists are strongly urged not to drive around barricades or through flooded roadways, as these actions can be life-threatening. Stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service, and avoid traveling through areas where flooding is occurring.
