Flood Warning Continues for Black River at Black Rock

Residents near the Black River at Black Rock should remain vigilant as the Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice.

Current Situation:

  • As of 9:00 AM CST Sunday, the river stage was recorded at 18.6 feet.
  • Minor flooding is already occurring, with the river expected to crest at 20.5 feet by tomorrow morning.

Flood Stage and Impacts:

  • Flood stage for the Black River is 14.0 feet.
  • At 20.0 feet, agricultural land along both banks in Lawrence, Independence, and Jackson counties will experience flooding.
  • Minor flooding may affect the Powhatan Community and Courthouse State Park.

Safety Precautions:

  • Turn Around, Don’t Drown: Avoid driving through flooded roads. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
  • Exercise extreme caution, especially at night, when flood dangers are harder to spot.
