Charges upgraded to second-degree murder in Walnut Ridge Main Street Pizza investigation

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. — Charges have been upgraded in connection with a deadly altercation that occurred outside Main Street Pizza in Walnut Ridge earlier this month, according to online booking records and law enforcement statements.

Logan Ashler Rentz, who was initially arrested on a charge of aggravated assault, is now facing an additional charge of second-degree murder in the death of Shannon Fisher. Rentz remains in custody at the Lawrence County Detention Center.

The incident occurred late on the night of Jan. 16, 2026. In a statement released Jan. 17, the Walnut Ridge Police Department said officers were dispatched at approximately 10:47 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive male in a parking lot following a physical altercation.

Responding officers, along with the Walnut Ridge Fire Department and Medic 1, arrived at the rear parking lot of Main Street Pizza, where Sergeant Aaron Moore located the unresponsive individual and immediately began CPR with assistance from a bystander, police said.

The victim was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. He was later identified through community reporting as Shannon Fisher. Law enforcement has not publicly released the victim’s identity in official statements.

At the time of the initial release, police confirmed that a suspect was in custody but withheld names and additional details, citing respect for the victim’s family and the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Online jail records now indicate that Rentz’s charges have been upgraded to include second-degree murder, reflecting the progression of the investigation and the fatal outcome of the incident.

Police have not released specific details regarding what led to the altercation, the nature of the confrontation, or whether additional charges could be filed. Authorities have also not commented on any potential contributing factors beyond confirming that a physical altercation occurred.

“This investigation remains active and ongoing,” the Walnut Ridge Police Department said in its statement. “Out of respect for all parties involved, as well as to preserve the integrity of the investigation, no names or additional details will be released at this time.”

Authorities are asking anyone who was present at Main Street Pizza prior to or during the incident on Jan. 16 to come forward.

Anyone with information, regardless of how minor it may seem, is asked to contact Sgt. Aaron Moore via email at amoore@cityofwalnutridge.org.

As with all criminal cases, charges are allegations. Rentz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Walnut Ridge Police Department said it will provide additional updates as information becomes available and when appropriate.
