STARKVILLE, Miss — After a grueling stretch against top-10 opponents at Razorback Stadium, Arkansas hit the road Saturday to face Mississippi State, a team struggling with a 1-6 season record and no SEC wins. It was a prime opportunity for Arkansas to rebound, and they seized it.
Following an early exchange of touchdowns, the Razorbacks shifted into high gear, scoring on three consecutive drives to gain a 24-7 advantage. Harding Academy alumnus and Arkansas native Kyle Ferrie added a field goal before halftime, and the Razorbacks headed to the locker room with a commanding 31-10 lead.
Quarterback Taylen Green, now three weeks post-injury, looked like his old self, becoming the first Arkansas quarterback since Ryan Mallett in 2010 to score four passing touchdowns and one rushing in a single game. Green finished with 314 yards and five touchdowns on an impressive 23-of-29 completions. Freshman quarterback Malachi Singleton led the team’s offense on its final drives, signaling Arkansas’s control over the game.
Running back Braylon Russell, stepping up as starter in place of the injured Ja’Quinden Jackson, delivered an explosive performance with 175 rushing yards on just 16 carries. The Central Arkansas native showed his potential, bringing power and agility to the Razorback ground game.
The Razorbacks’ defense showed vulnerability in containing Mississippi State, especially in the second half, but six turnovers from the Bulldogs and a critical goal-line stand kept Arkansas in control. Mississippi State left numerous points on the field, missing scoring opportunities due to turnovers and Arkansas’s timely stops.
Arkansas’s 58-25 victory marks the highest score by a Razorback team in an SEC game since 2016, also against Mississippi State. With four games remaining, Arkansas, now 5-3, needs just one more win to secure bowl eligibility. The team now sets its sights on Ole Miss, who will visit Fayetteville next Saturday.
