Batesville and State Law Enforcement Will Be In Full Force New Years Night

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Local law enforcement agencies in Batesville and across Independence County are ramping up efforts to keep roadways safe this holiday season as part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. The initiative runs from December 18 through January 3 and aims to reduce the risk of alcohol-related accidents during the Christmas and New Year period.

Enhanced Patrols in Batesville

As part of the heightened enforcement, Batesville Police and Independence County Sheriff’s Office deputies will increase saturation patrols, focusing on identifying and arresting impaired drivers. This effort underscores the critical need to address drunk driving, a leading cause of preventable traffic deaths both locally and nationwide.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2014 alone, nearly 10,000 people lost their lives in alcohol-related crashes in the U.S., including 135 fatalities in Arkansas.

“Drunk driving is a choice that leads to devastating consequences,” said Colonel Bill Bryant, Director of the Arkansas State Police. “We’re working with local law enforcement to spread the message: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

Community Awareness and Safety Tips

In addition to enforcement, law enforcement officials urge the Batesville community to remain vigilant and proactive:

  • Plan ahead: If you’re drinking, designate a sober driver or use a taxi or ride-share service.
  • Speak up: If you see someone attempting to drive after drinking, take their keys and help them find a safe way home.
  • Report drunk drivers: Call 911 immediately if you suspect someone is driving under the influence.
  • Buckle up: Always wear your seatbelt, as it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.

Colonel Bryant emphasized the importance of community involvement, saying, “If you see a drunk driver, report it. Together, we can prevent these tragic, unnecessary losses.”

Working Toward Safer Roads

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is part of Arkansas’s larger goal of eliminating preventable traffic fatalities through its “Toward Zero Deaths” initiative. Batesville residents can learn more by visiting www.TZDarkansas.org.
