Batesville, Arkansas, July 18, 2025 – Arkansas is set to endure another week of extreme heat starting Saturday, July 19, through at least Friday, July 25, with heat index values expected to soar between 100 and 115 degrees across central, eastern, and north central regions, including Batesville. The National Weather Service forecasts high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, with some areas nearing 100 degrees, driven by a persistent high-pressure system over the Mid-South. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Saturday, July 19, from noon to 8 p.m. CDT, with potential for Extreme Heat Warnings early next week as conditions worsen.
The combination of high temperatures and humidity will elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for vulnerable groups like older adults and outdoor workers. Symptoms to watch for include dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and confusion. The NWS urges residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid direct sun exposure, and check on relatives and neighbors. When outdoors, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours.
For outdoor workers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 if symptoms appear. Cooling centers, including the Batesville Community Center, will remain open daily to provide relief. The Independence County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to monitor vulnerable neighbors and report concerns to (870) 793-8838.
The NWS and local meteorologists indicate that the heat dome will suppress significant rainfall, with only a 10–20% chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms through the week, offering little relief. Batesville and surrounding areas like Hot Springs, Benton, and Ash Flat can expect mostly sunny skies, with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s, providing minimal respite from the heat.
Residents should prepare for prolonged heat by ensuring access to cooling and hydration. For updates, monitor official weather alerts or contact the Independence County Sheriff’s Office for local resources
