Newark Man Charged in Haley Lane Residential Burglary and Battery

NEWARK — A 57-year-old Newark man faces felony charges after authorities say he forced entry into a Haley Lane residence and assaulted a sleeping man with a metal object.

Thomas Dru Hall was charged with residential burglary, a Class B felony, and second-degree battery, a Class D felony, following the May 27 incident in Independence County.

According to an affidavit filed in Independence County Circuit Court, deputies responded to a report of a physical altercation at the residence. They found a man outside with injuries to his arm, face and legs.

The victim told investigators he and a woman were asleep when Hall forced his way into the home and began striking him. The man said he tried to defend himself before fleeing the residence and hiding in nearby woods. He was later transported to White River Medical Center for treatment, where he underwent surgery for a broken arm.

A female witness reported that Hall pushed open the door, shoved her down and then attacked the resident. She ran to a relative’s home to call 911.

Detectives documented damage to the front door of the residence and blood inside. The metal object described as the weapon was not recovered.

Hall was arrested May 29 and released the following day after posting a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court June 9.
