The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced Tuesday that Melbourne will receive $1,457,000 in federal loans and $3,933,000 in grants through its Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program. This funding aims to enhance public health and environmental safety by modernizing critical infrastructure for wastewater transmission and treatment.
Melbourne, with a population of approximately 1,830 residents, has faced challenges with its outdated wastewater system. The improvements funded by this project will replace deteriorating infrastructure, ensuring the safe and reliable transmission of wastewater while minimizing pollution and runoff into surrounding areas.
