Jonesboro Man Charged After Alleged Threats Against Police Officer

A Jonesboro man is facing a felony charge after allegedly threatening to kill a police officer and bomb his home.

Zakary Lee Swanson, 25, is being held on a $100,000 bond for one count of felony terroristic threatening.

According to court records, Swanson arrived at the Batesville Police Department around 4:17 a.m. on February 1, telling Cpl. Melissa Wilkey that he needed to be arrested because he was driving a stolen vehicle. He then referenced a previous case, claiming that another Batesville officer had wrongfully charged him with assault and pointed a gun at him. Swanson allegedly stated that once released from jail, he would kill that officer.

After being taken into custody, Swanson continued making threats, allegedly saying he would find the officer’s home and plant a bomb, according to the arrest affidavit.

Investigators later determined that the vehicle belonged to a Missouri church and was used by a Piggott, Arkansas, sober house. A representative from the sober house confirmed that Swanson had permission to use the vehicle for transporting individuals to work in Piggott but was not authorized to take it to Batesville. Officials say he returned with the vehicle after dropping people off but later left again without permission.

Swanson remains in custody at the Independence County Jail as the case proceeds.
