HARRISON, Ark. — Crews at the Buffalo National River are working to repair extensive damage caused by severe flooding following heavy rainfall earlier this week. Floodwaters impacted roads and facilities throughout the park, including popular campgrounds and access routes.
According to the National Park Service, flood damage has left several campsites at Kyles Landing, Erbie, and Ozark campgrounds covered in silt. As a result, park officials have suspended fees at these sites until March 14, 2025, allowing visitors to access the areas at no cost during the extended recovery period.
The flooding also damaged roads in the Erbie Historic District and surrounding areas, including Erbie-Compton Road, the low-water crossing at Erbie, and Cecil Creek crossing. Though these routes remain open, park officials caution that they are currently only passable for high-clearance vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive due to deep ruts and silt deposits.
During the repair process, visitors should expect limited facilities in certain areas. The National Park Service is working to restore full access and ensure the safety of park guests amid ongoing recovery efforts.
