Warrant Issued for Assault in Detention Center

Independence County, AR – A warrant was issued on July 16 for Anthony Pugh, 24, following an altercation in June with fellow inmate Vance Reed, 70, at the Independence County Detention Center.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident occurred while both men were in the detox cell. A jailer observed Reed lying on the floor in the fetal position and Pugh pacing back and forth, yelling incoherently. As the jailer attempted to remove Reed from the cell, Pugh grabbed Reed, lifted him off the ground, and slammed him onto the concrete floor.

Reed sustained significant injuries, including a laceration and swelling to his wrist, bruising around his eye, and a “knot” on his head. He was initially taken to White River Medical Center for medical care but was later transported to Baptist Health in Little Rock due to the severity of his injuries.

Medical records from Baptist Health revealed that Reed had a fractured right femur, a fractured facial bone, and multiple rib fractures on his left side. Due to fluid buildup in his lungs, he was placed on a ventilator.

Anthony Pugh is being charged with felony battery. His bond has been set at $50,000.
