Van Buren Police Launch Homicide Investigation After Oklahoma Man’s Body Found Near Arkansas River

VAN BUREN, Ark. — Van Buren police have opened a homicide investigation after the body of an Oklahoma man was recovered near the Arkansas River over the weekend.

The Crawford County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Derek Marshall, age 30, of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

On Friday, November 14, around 5:00 p.m., Van Buren police officers and firefighters responded to reports of a body near the Arkansas River. First responders located and recovered Marshall’s body.

An autopsy conducted at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory determined the manner of death to be homicide.

Van Buren Police Department Criminal Investigation Division detectives are actively pursuing leads.

No additional details about the cause of death or possible suspects have been released at this time.
