Lyon College Scots Volunteer Over Spring Break to Aid Tornado Victims

CAVE CITY, Arkansas – A large group of Lyon College students, including members of the Scots softball team, spent their spring break assisting with cleanup efforts in Cave City and the surrounding region following recent tornadoes.

Organized by Lyon College Chaplain and Director of Service Maggie Alsup in partnership with Eight Days of Hope, the volunteer effort focused on vital recovery work, including debris removal, tree cutting and home restoration assistance.

The Scots softball team dedicated their time to helping a local family dismantle the remains of a barn destroyed in the storms. The student-athletes worked together to take down walls and roofs, sorting materials into organized piles for disposal and potential reuse.

“We prayed together, laughed together, lifted together and served together,” Chaplain Alsup said. “I’m incredibly grateful to our softball team for their service before heading off to play six games.”

In addition to the softball team, members of the Student Life staff joined the relief effort, embracing the hard work and fellowship.

Eight Days of Hope is a national organization that mobilizes volunteers to help communities recover from disasters. Their work in Cave City has been instrumental in assisting families affected by the recent storms.

The Lyon College volunteers’ commitment to service reflects the school’s dedication to fostering a culture of compassion and community engagement.
