BATESVILLE, Arkansas —The Lyon College Music department will host two concerts this month featuring its music ensembles and a newly formed regional ensemble.
The Lyon College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of John Christian, will perform on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. in Sloan Auditorium of the Brown Fine Arts Building, 2300 Highland Rd., Batesville. The ensemble will present a diverse repertoire of wind compositions.
In addition, the Lyon College Chamber Choir, led by new director Dr. Bethany Neese, will perform choral selections.
“Music has the power to uplift, evoke memories, and bring people together in joy and inspiration,” said Dr. Neese, director of vocal activities and assistant professor of music. “We’re excited to share performances that showcase our students’ hard work, the artistry of our faculty, and the rich musical and cultural life of our community.”
The Diamond Wind Ensemble, a newly formed ensemble under Christian’s direction featuring Lyon College musicians alongside local and regional performers, will perform on Monday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in Sloan Auditorium, Brown Fine Arts Building. The ensemble’s program includes a variety of classic wind band literature as well as contemporary works.
“These performances are a wonderful opportunity for our students to demonstrate their artistry and for the community to enjoy a rich variety of wind music,” Christian said. “Our ensembles work hard all semester to bring both classic and contemporary pieces to life, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see their dedication and talent come together on stage. We hope these concerts inspire audiences, celebrate the musical growth of our students, and strengthen the connection between Lyon College and the broader Arkansas community.”
Both concerts are free and open to the public.
