IZARD COUNTY, Ark. – The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to be vigilant regarding a recent wave of scam calls that threaten arrest unless payment is made.
In a news release, the agency reported that a local resident received a call appearing to come from “ICPD,” with the caller identifying themselves as Chief Deputy Davidson. The caller claimed that the recipient had an outstanding arrest warrant and requested payment via gift cards or money orders, along with instructions on where to obtain them.
Alarmingly, the caller also mentioned a supposed gag order, instructing the individual not to discuss the call or warrant with anyone else.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that legitimate law enforcement officials will never demand payment over the phone or require individuals to purchase gift cards for any reason. They are advising anyone who receives such calls to be cautious and to avoid sharing personal information.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious calls by contacting the Sheriff’s Office at 870-368-4203 and asking to speak with a deputy. Staying informed and cautious can help protect the community from falling victim to these scams.
