Crash Involving Cattle Truck Leaves Two Dead on I-40 in Johnson County

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – A multi-vehicle crash involving a truck hauling cattle claimed the lives of at least two people Saturday evening on westbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 70 in Johnson County.

The incident, reported around 6 p.m. on Oct. 25, prompted a response from the Arkansas State Police, who confirmed the fatalities. Details indicate the cattle truck struck a stalled vehicle, knocking it off the highway where it caught fire with occupants inside.

Westbound lanes were closed between Knoxville and London, with traffic diverted at Exit 74 onto U.S. Highway 64. The interstate reopened around 7 a.m. Sunday after crews cleared the scene, though significant delays persisted overnight.

No further information on the victims’ identities, the truck driver or other vehicles involved has been released as the investigation continues. Authorities advised drivers to seek alternate routes during the closure.
