A Batesville man’s dedication to cleaning up the roads we all travel continues to be a shining example of community pride. Rex Williams has once again spent his own time, energy, and personal resources working to keep Batesville and the surrounding areas clean. Over just the past two weeks, Williams has filled 125 large trash bags, along with removing three discarded tires and numerous miscellaneous items tossed along the roadside.
Williams shares updates about his cleanup efforts, noting that the work is relentless. He recently wrote that he battled briars to reach trash, ripping his shirt and scraping his hands in the process. “Part of my expense I guess,” he said of the toll and the out-of-pocket cost of what he does. “I don’t believe the trash is ever going to run out.”
Despite the physical challenges and long days, he continues to show up, driven by a simple goal: making this a better place to live for everyone in Independence County.
A GoFundMe page was established to help cover some of the expenses related to his volunteer work. However, support is still falling short. So far, just $2,210 has been raised toward a $15,000 goal. These funds help Williams pay for fuel, supplies, protective gear, and disposal costs serving the community without compensation.
Residents who want to show appreciation for his service are asked to consider donating and spreading the word. Every contribution, big or small, helps ensure he can afford to keep going.
