BATESVILLE, Ark. – Batesville is moving forward with plans to build its first roundabout at the intersection of 20th and Myers Street, near the Batesville Community Center. The project is intended to improve traffic flow in the area and is expected to be completed before the start of the upcoming school year.
The Batesville City Council approved a $2.88 million bid from White River Materials during a recent special meeting. The city has been planning this project for several years, with delays due to utility coordination and jurisdictional agreements.
Traffic studies conducted in the area have recorded a significant daily volume, making the intersection a priority for infrastructure upgrades. The roundabout will serve as a continuous-flow traffic solution, replacing the current stop-controlled intersection. The city has allocated funds from its Street Fund and will finance the remainder through borrowing.
The area surrounding the intersection is undergoing development, including potential residential and commercial projects. The roundabout is not only expected to improve traffic circulation but also support future growth in the area.
This will be the city’s first roundabout, marking a shift toward modern traffic design practices already implemented in other Arkansas municipalities.
