Batesville Man Charged With Multiple Felonies After Newark Foot Pursuit

NEWARK, Ark. — A Batesville man faces several felony charges, including simultaneous possession of a controlled substance and a firearm, following a bicycle stop that turned into a foot chase through a neighborhood here Tuesday.

Jordan Christopher Ramos, 29, was arrested June 2 and is being held at the Independence County Detention Facility on a $25,000 bond.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Arkansas State Police Trooper Nick Ade spotted Ramos riding a bicycle near 6th and Hill streets and recognized him as having an active arrest warrant. During the initial contact, Ramos acknowledged he might have drug paraphernalia, and a syringe fell from his pocket.

Ade searched Ramos and placed a backpack from the suspect onto the hood of the patrol vehicle. Ramos then became nervous and fled on foot toward College Street as the trooper started to open the bag. Ade pursued him approximately 200 yards through several yards before finding Ramos hiding near a shed behind a residence.

While being escorted back to the patrol car, Ramos told the trooper he ran because he was a convicted felon and had a gun in the backpack, court records state.

A search of the bag revealed a Remington .380 handgun loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, psilocybin mushrooms, digital scales and a crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Special Agent Zach Bailey of the Sixteenth Judicial District Drug Task Force conducted the test. The narcotics weighed between 10 and 200 grams.

Ramos was convicted of felony methamphetamine possession in April 2023, according to criminal history records.

He now faces charges of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of methamphetamine and a Schedule I or II substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a certain person and fleeing on foot.
