At the recent Batesville City Council meeting, Public Works Engineer Damon Johnson outlined several key city projects aimed at fostering economic growth and enhancing community amenities.
Utilities for Industrial Development
Johnson reported on a 19-acre industrial site lacking water and sewer infrastructure. To attract potential developers, the city plans to provide these utilities as an incentive. The project, which went out for bid, received a guaranteed maximum price of just over $2.1 million from Steep Creek, LLC, a subcontractor of the TOLM Group overseeing the water plant project.
“The bid came in within $100,000 of the engineers’ assessment, and we feel comfortable moving forward,” said Johnson. Mayor Rick Elumbaugh echoed the importance of being proactive, ensuring readiness for potential developers even if the current interested company does not proceed.
The project includes two highway bores for sewer installation and a water line below Lawrence Street that requires a bore under a railroad. The council approved Steep Creek’s bid.
Other Infrastructure Updates
Johnson also noted ongoing projects, including relocating a sewer line near the dog park. This work will prepare for a larger excavation project set to begin in early January.
Riverside Park Splash Pad
In a move to enhance recreational opportunities, the council approved the construction of a splash pad at Riverside Park by ACS Playground Adventures at a cost of $159,977. Competitive bidding was waived, as ACS was deemed uniquely qualified to meet the design, pricing, and construction timeline requirements.
With these initiatives, Batesville continues to position itself for economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.
