NEWPORT — An 85-year-old woman from New Lenox, Illinois, was killed early Friday when she was struck by a vehicle while walking on Interstate 57 in Jackson County, according to the Arkansas State Police.
The fatal crash occurred at 4:19 a.m. July 3 near the 84-mile marker on northbound I-57.
According to the preliminary fatal crash report, Carol Fowler, 85, entered the roadway and was struck by a 2021 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound. Fowler was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported to Jackson Funeral Home.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured. Troopers reported clear weather and dry road conditions at the time of the crash.
