Los Angeles, Ca — Austin Reaves, a Cedar Ridge High School graduate from Newark, has agreed to a four-year, $185 million maximum contract to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, the richest deal in NBA history for an undrafted player.
ESPN reported Wednesday that Reaves, who declined his $14.9 million player option for next season, will earn $41.3 million in the first year of the new agreement. The deal includes a player option for the 2029-30 season and will not affect the Lakers’ salary cap flexibility this summer, as Reaves is expected to sign after the team uses its available space.
Lakers President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka had made Reaves’ return a top priority.
Reaves averaged 23.3 points on 49% shooting, along with 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game last season despite missing time with calf and oblique injuries. The 28-year-old returned for the playoffs, averaging 20 points and 5.8 assists before the Lakers were eliminated in the second round by Oklahoma City.
