Izard County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Scam Targeting Inmate Families

IZARD COUNTY, Ark. — The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam targeting families of individuals currently in custody, saying scammers are attempting to exploit public information to solicit money under false pretenses.

According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are contacting inmate families and claiming that a loved one can be released from custody if an immediate payment is made. In some cases, the callers are reportedly impersonating law enforcement personnel and using the names of other inmates to make the story appear legitimate.

Officials say the scam relies on urgency and emotional pressure, often telling victims they must send money right away to secure an inmate’s release.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that it will never demand payment over the phone for the release of an inmate, nor will it accept bond payments through phone calls or unofficial channels. Authorities also noted that no legitimate law enforcement officer will pressure someone into sending money immediately.

Residents are urged to be cautious if they receive suspicious calls involving an inmate at the Izard County Jail. Officials recommend hanging up immediately and contacting the sheriff’s office directly to verify any claims.

Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to report it or seek confirmation by contacting the Izard County Sheriff’s Office at 870-368-4203.
