BATESVILLE, Ark. – The meticulously curated collection of classic trucks and cars amassed by the late Jack Shewmaker, one of Walmart’s pioneering chief operating officers, will cross the auction block this week at Mecum Auctions in Dallas.
Shewmaker, who grew up in rural Missouri amid his family’s Chrysler dealership and rose to become one of Walmart’s first COOs, is credited with coining the retail giant’s iconic “Everyday Low Prices” slogan. A Northwest Arkansas resident until his passing, he was known for his discerning eye in collecting only well-maintained vintage vehicles, ensuring each addition to his garage met his high standards of care and condition.
The auction, featuring over 1,600 vehicles overall, kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Dickies Arena and runs through Friday, Oct. 31. Shewmaker’s trucks and cars will be highlights among the lots, with the remaining portion of his collection slated for Mecum’s Florida event in January 2026.
Mecum Auctions President Dave Purvis praised Shewmaker’s legacy, calling him “a huge blessing” for the Northwest Arkansas community. Purvis expressed hope that local enthusiasts would turn out in force, noting, “We’re excited to bring that to Dallas, and that’s the closest auction we have to that community, and we’re hoping that they show out really strong for his collection.” He added the event’s uniqueness: “Anyone that may have seen him driving around, taking them to car shows from that area should be there to bid on them, because it’ll be the only time they get it, only chance they get to buy them.”
For Arkansas car lovers, the sale represents a rare opportunity to own pieces of automotive history tied to a figure who helped shape the state’s economic powerhouse. Bidding details and previews are available at mecum.com.
