PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Donald Trump has announced that he is revoking former President Joe Biden’s access to classified intelligence briefings, citing Biden’s own actions in 2021 when he denied Trump similar access.
Trump made the declaration Friday on his social media platform, stating that Biden would no longer receive daily intelligence updates.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information. Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings,” Trump wrote. He argued that Biden had established this precedent by ordering intelligence officials to cut off Trump’s access early in his presidency.
The move is one of several Trump has taken since returning to office, including revoking security clearances for former intelligence officials who had dismissed reports about Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 election. He has also withdrawn security protections from critics, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
The White House has yet to comment on Trump’s decision.
Biden previously defended his choice to block Trump from receiving intelligence updates in 2021, citing concerns over Trump’s behavior following the January 6 Capitol riot. He questioned what value Trump would gain from the briefings and suggested there was a risk he could mishandle classified information.
