SHARP COUNTY, Ark. – A tragic two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 167 south of Evening Shade has claimed the life of a Batesville woman and left six others injured.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, according to the Arkansas State Police (ASP). The preliminary crash report indicates that 31-year-old Shaundra Johnson of Batesville was driving northbound in her 2016 Toyota when her vehicle crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a 2005 Chevrolet driven by 34-year-old Colten Boyd of West Plains, Missouri.
Johnson suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and a child who was riding with her was also injured.
In addition to Boyd, 30-year-old Emily Boyd of West Plains and three children who were passengers in the Chevrolet were injured. All the injured parties were transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville for treatment.
ASP noted that it was raining at the time of the crash, and the road was wet, potentially contributing to the accident.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
