Authorities Search for Suspect After Shots Fired at Judge’s Home, Law Enforcement Officers

POINSETT COUNTY, Ark. (Edited News Release) – Law enforcement is actively searching for a suspect after shots were fired at a judge’s home on Friday night.

According to Poinsett County Sheriff Kevin Molder, on August 23, 2024, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Judge Ron Hunter contacted the Poinsett County E911 Center to report that an unidentified man was threatening him on his property.

Deputies responded but were unable to locate the individual.

An hour later, at around 9:33 p.m., Judge Hunter’s wife called 911 to report that shots had been fired at their home.

A deputy arrived shortly after and, while speaking with Judge Hunter, the suspect opened fire on them. The deputy reported the shots to dispatch. As additional deputies arrived, the shooter began firing at the responding officers. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, Harrisburg Police Department, Jonesboro Police Department, and Arkansas State Police, initiated a search for the suspect, deploying all available resources, including three drones.

The sheriff’s office is continuing its search for the individual responsible for the attacks on Judge Hunter and law enforcement officers.

Authorities are asking the public for assistance. If you saw anyone behaving suspiciously or walking in the area of Greenfield Road after 7:30 p.m. on August 23, 2024, please contact (870) 578-2116 and ask to speak with a deputy sheriff.
