Bond Set At 30K for Teen Who Brandished Firearm At Fireworks Celebration

Independence County, AR – A felony affidavit was filed on July 8 for Christian Alexander Hernandez Velasquez, 18, following an incident at the “Celebrate America” fireworks celebration on Independence Day in Riverside Park.

According to the affidavit, Velasquez pointed a .45 caliber handgun at a 16-year-old girl during the event. Police later located Velasquez and Santiago Andres Correa-Montoya at the celebration. The unloaded pistol was found in Montoya’s waistband, with a magazine for the weapon in his pocket.

The victim provided law enforcement with threatening text messages she had received from Velasquez. The messages included: “Whenever I see you, you will see,” “Soon I will be erasing the smile you have,” “Be careful,” “Nobody’s telling you lies, just be careful,” “Send me your address and we will face off,” and “I thought you weren’t scared of death, tell me where you’re at and we’ll see.”

When questioned, Montoya claimed he “always likes to have [a firearm] with him,” and Velasquez stated they had the gun “just in case something happened.” Both denied knowing or sending any messages to the juvenile victim.

Velasquez has been charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threatening, both felonies. His bond has been set at $30,000.
