Independence County Shifts from Tornado Cleanup to Flood Repairs

INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, Ark. – After completing tornado cleanup along the Sharp County line, the Independence County Road Department has now turned its attention to flood damage repairs in the southern part of the county.

County Judge Kevin Jeffery confirmed that the cleanup from recent tornado activity has been wrapped up, allowing crews to respond to the aftermath of 10 to 12 inches of heavy rainfall that recently impacted the area. The flooding has caused widespread damage to rural infrastructure, prompting immediate repair efforts.

“The road department has been working hard on both ends—first with storm debris, and now we’re addressing the serious flood damage that’s affecting several county roads,” Jeffery said.

Among the roads scheduled for future improvements are River Ridge Spur, Old Trestle Lane, Davidson Lane, Hearthstone Drive, and Shackleford Road. These routes, along with others throughout the county, are being prepped for chip seal treatment later this year, as part of a long-term maintenance and infrastructure upgrade plan.

The county is continuing to monitor weather-related conditions and prioritize areas with the greatest need for repair and stabilization.
