KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs canceled practice on Thursday due to a medical emergency involving defensive end B.J. Thompson, who hails from Arkansas.
Thompson, in his second year with the Chiefs, was hospitalized after experiencing a seizure and going into cardiac arrest.
Thompson’s agent informed FOX 16 Sports Director Wess Moore that as of Thursday afternoon, Thompson remained unconscious, but his vitals had stabilized and returned to normal levels.
Thompson’s hometown of England, Arkansas, shows love and support for the Kansas City Chiefs player ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.
The Chiefs were set to conclude their voluntary offseason workouts on Thursday, but a team spokesman announced that practice would be postponed to Friday. Chiefs coach Andy Reid and several players are expected to address the media then.
The 27-year-old Thompson, originally from England, Arkansas, was a fifth-round draft pick out of Stephen F. Austin University last year.
Thompson played in only one game, the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, a match that did not affect the Chiefs’ playoff standings. He recorded two tackles in that game.
