BATESVILLE — The Batesville City Council is set to consider a resolution authorizing the mayor to apply for a multimillion-dollar Federal Aviation Administration grant to help fund rehabilitation of Runway 8-26 and the parallel taxiway at Batesville Regional Airport.
The proposed grant, if approved, would cover a significant portion of the project costs for improving the runway and taxiway infrastructure. Airport Manager Justin Thompson noted that the runway has undergone multiple repairs over the past decade.
If the resolution passes during Tuesday’s council meeting, the city and airport commission would proceed to enter a formal grant agreement with the FAA and initiate the bidding process for the work.
Batesville Regional Airport (BVX) serves general aviation needs in Independence County and the surrounding area, supporting local business travel, emergency services and recreational flying. The project aims to maintain safety and operational reliability at the facility.
No specific grant amount or timeline for construction was detailed in advance of the meeting, but FAA grants typically require local matching funds and adherence to federal standards. Residents can attend the council session or check city agendas for updates on the resolution’s outcome.
