Little Rock, AR – Arkansas farmers have a new tool to simplify claiming sales tax exemptions on critical farming inputs, thanks to a recently launched “Farmers Sales Tax Exemption Card” from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA).
Announced on January 5, 2026, the wallet-sized, durable card allows eligible farmers to apply exemptions directly at the point of purchase, eliminating much of the previous paperwork required for refunds or retailer filings.
The program stems from Act 621 of 2025, sponsored by Rep. DeAnn Vaught (R-District 87) and Sen. Tyler Dees (R-District 35), and signed by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Exempt items include animals, feed, seed, chemicals, machinery, tractors, sprayers, irrigation equipment, mechanical pickers, and fertilizer.
“Farmers shouldn’t have to jump through hoops just to do their jobs,” Governor Sanders said. “This card makes it easier to claim sales tax exemptions right at the point of purchase, cutting paperwork and giving farmers more time where it matters most: in the field and with their families.”
DFA Secretary Jim Hudson added that the initiative aligns with efforts to streamline services for Arkansans, benefiting both farmers and retailers.
Applications are now open online at atap.arkansas.gov. Upon approval, DFA mails the card, which features the farm’s name, address, issue date, and unique ID number. The card is valid for eight years at an initial cost of $20, with renewals at $10. Participation is optional—farmers can continue using existing exemption processes if preferred.
As input costs remain high for Arkansas agriculture, supporters say the card provides timely relief by applying savings immediately rather than through later reimbursements.
