MARKED TREE — A 25-year-old Marked Tree police officer from Marmaduke was killed early Sunday morning when the patrol vehicle he was riding in was struck by another vehicle at a Poinsett County intersection.
Officer Trevor Howard was a passenger in the patrol vehicle when it was hit by a vehicle that allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 14 and Broadway Street, according to the Arkansas State Police. The collision caused the patrol vehicle to overturn.
Howard’s father, Don Howard, said in a social media post that the family’s hearts were “completely shattered” by the news of the crash. He described his son as someone loved and respected by everyone he met, noting that Trevor was a talented musician deeply dedicated to his family, his church and his work as a patrol officer.
“Though our family is devastated, we can take some comfort in knowing that he died doing what he loved and what he was called to do,” Don Howard wrote.
He thanked officers with the Marked Tree Police Department and the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, along with family and friends, for their support during the family’s grief. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced once they are finalized.
Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the crash.
