Six Arrested Following Drug Raid at Calico Rock Residence

CALICO ROCK — A law enforcement response to an informant’s tip resulted in the arrests of six people on controlled substance charges in Izard County on June 9.

Special agents with the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and an Izard County deputy went to a Jones Street residence that evening seeking Jill Dayberry, 41, and Cole Staggs, 35, both of whom had outstanding arrest warrants from neighboring counties.

After the resident, Jeremy Gross, 51, gave consent to enter, authorities found Dayberry, Staggs and Aundria Webb, 34, inside a bedroom. Stephen McCarroll, 45, and Ricky Jay Smithson, 58, were located in common areas of the home. Dayberry and Staggs were taken into custody without incident.

Staggs admitted to smoking methamphetamine before officers arrived, and a search of his bags revealed meth residue, according to reports. Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the residence from Judge Chaney Taylor.

The search uncovered used smoking pipes, digital scales with white residue, and a plate holding less than two grams of a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also found a purse belonging to Dayberry that contained cut plastic baggies, scales and suspected hydrocodone pills.

All six individuals were transported to the Izard County Sheriff’s Department for booking.

Staggs, Gross, Dayberry, McCarroll and Webb face charges of possession of methamphetamine or cocaine with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gross and Webb were also charged with maintaining a drug premise. Staggs and McCarroll were charged as habitual offenders. Bond for each of the five was set at $20,000.

Smithson was charged with possession with intent to deliver and possession of paraphernalia. He was released June 11 on a $15,000 bond.

Authorities said the seized evidence will be submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for analysis.
