NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — City officials and developers formally broke ground this week on a $25 million mixed-use development — the new Arena District, also being called the “Gateway to Argenta” — located adjacent to Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock.
The project is being developed by Nabholz Properties and is intended to bring new hotels, an event center, and entertainment venues to the city. Plans call for a boutique hotel, the relocation of Willy D’s Dueling Piano Bar, a 31,000-square-foot event center, and other lodging and retail components that will anchor the district.
Mayor Terry Hartwick said the groundbreaking completes a long-term vision for North Little Rock’s Entertainment District, noting that the city previously lacked facilities for larger dinners, events or programs in the area. He highlighted that with the new event center, North Little Rock will keep more gatherings in-town rather than sending them across to Little Rock.
The site sits in the Argenta Arts District, a historic neighborhood that has been targeted for redevelopment and growth in recent years. With the new construction, North Little Rock hopes to strengthen its role as a regional entertainment destination.
Construction is expected to begin right away and is anticipated to take approximately 18 months from start to finish, with portions of the development opening sooner. The district’s proximity to existing venues, parking, and transit infrastructure makes it well positioned for both local and regional draws.
The Indiana-based developer said the project will complement the Simmons Bank Arena and heighten activity in neighboring districts. Local media reports that the structure will include a five-story hotel and expanded live music and event space.
Economic development leaders believe the Arena District will spur further investment in North Little Rock, generate additional foot traffic, and expand the city’s hospitality base. The consolidation of hotels, dining, entertainment, and event capacity aims to boost tax revenue, support local jobs, and enhance the city’s nightlife.
For downtown business owners and residents, the project signals renewed momentum for Argenta and surrounding corridors — an effort that City Hall has been preparing for years.
