Jackson, Miss. — Brad Arnold, the founding member, lead singer, and primary songwriter of the rock band 3 Doors Down, has passed away at the age of 47 following a courageous fight against cancer.

The band announced Arnold’s death on social media Saturday, February 7, 2026, stating he passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his beloved wife Jennifer and family.

“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47,” the statement read. “With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.”

Arnold revealed in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer. The diagnosis led the band to cancel its summer tour as he focused on treatment and leaned on his faith throughout the ordeal.

Born Bradley Kirk Arnold on September 27, 1978, in Escatawpa, Mississippi, he formed 3 Doors Down in 1996 with friends Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell. The band gained national fame with their 2000 debut album The Better Life, featuring the massive hit “Kryptonite,” which topped rock charts and propelled them to multi-platinum success.

Arnold’s distinctive voice and heartfelt songwriting defined 3 Doors Down’s sound through albums like Away from the Sun (2002), Seventeen Days (2005), and 3 Doors Down (2008). Hits including “Here Without You,” “When I’m Gone,” “Be Like That,” and “Loser” resonated with millions, blending post-grunge, alternative rock, and Southern influences.

Beyond music, Arnold was known for his humility, generosity, and devotion to family. Bandmates remembered him as a devoted husband whose kindness, humor, and spirit touched everyone who knew him.

No immediate details on funeral arrangements or memorials have been released. The band asked for privacy during this difficult time while expressing deep gratitude for fans’ support over the years.

3 Doors Down’s music and Arnold’s legacy continue to influence rock fans across the country, including in Arkansas where the band’s hits remain radio staples. The Batesville Tribune extends condolences to Arnold’s family, friends, bandmates, and all who were touched by his life and music.
