Morgan Wallen Pleads Guilty to Reckless Endangerment in Rooftop Chair Incident

Country music superstar Morgan Wallen pleaded guilty Thursday to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment after throwing a chair off the rooftop of a six-story bar in Nashville, narrowly missing two police officers.

Appearing in court alongside his attorney, Wallen accepted a sentence of seven days in a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation. When asked for his plea, the “One Thing at a Time” singer responded, “Conditionally guilty,” before Judge Cynthia Chappell.

According to an arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on April 7 at Chief’s Bar, where Wallen was accused of hurling a chair from the rooftop. The chair landed approximately one yard from the officers, prompting an investigation that included witness statements and security footage. Witnesses reported seeing Wallen pick up the chair, throw it off the roof, and laugh about the act.

Initially, Wallen faced three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Following the incident, Wallen released a statement acknowledging responsibility for his actions, though it stopped short of a formal apology. He emphasized making “amends” and cooperating with law enforcement.

Worrick Robinson, Wallen’s attorney, noted that his client had been cooperative throughout the eight-month legal process. “Upon the successful completion of his probation, the charges will be eligible for dismissal and expungement,” Robinson stated.

The brief court hearing concluded without any additional comment from Wallen, who was escorted out by security.

Despite his success as one of country music’s biggest stars—recently earning the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award—Wallen has faced a series of controversies. In 2021, he was suspended indefinitely by his label after a video surfaced of him using a racial slur. The year prior, he was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct after being removed from Kid Rock’s bar in Nashville.

With this latest legal matter, Wallen’s path forward appears tied to the successful completion of his probation and efforts to rebuild his public image.
