Man Dies, Two Injured After Train Strikes Them on Bridge in Van Buren

VAN BUREN, Ark. — A man from Rudy has died, and two others were injured after being struck by a train near Lee Creek Park on July 21, according to the Van Buren Police Department (VBPD).

The police reported that three individuals were on the train bridge taking photos on Saturday night when the train approached and hit them.

The two injured individuals reported the incident around 11:10 p.m. Despite their minor injuries, they informed the police that the man was thrown from the bridge into the water upon impact.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Smith Fire Department Dive Team, and Van Buren first responders assisted in locating the man’s body in the water.

Police have identified the man but are withholding his identity at this time.

The police department urges residents to stay off the bridge, emphasizing that it is not only dangerous but also considered trespassing, as it is railroad property and requires permission to be on the bridge.
