Jonesboro Man Arrested in Connection with Multiple Robberies

JONESBORO, Ark. — A recent string of robberies in Jonesboro has led to the arrest of one suspect in connection with multiple crimes.

On September 1, police responded to a report from a man who claimed he was threatened at gunpoint inside his apartment. According to the affidavit, the suspect stole $5,750 worth of cash, checks, credit cards, and cell phones from the man and his roommate.

Further investigation linked this case to another robbery reported on September 3, where 30-year-old Benjamin Valeary and 21-year-old Joshua Vann were arrested. In this incident, the suspects allegedly robbed a 63-year-old disabled woman and her home health aide at a residence on Belt Street. The victims reported that the robbers entered their home, brandished a gun, and demanded money and phones.

Detective Bruce Wright noted that before a photo lineup could be conducted with the first robbery victim, the victim contacted him after seeing news reports and identified Valeary as the robber. “During a Mirandized interview, Mr. Valeary admitted to being in the victim’s apartment on September 1 while high on meth,” Wright stated in the affidavit. Valeary reportedly claimed he was searching for abandoned items and had entered multiple open apartments for this purpose.

The investigation into these incidents is ongoing as authorities work to gather more evidence and determine if there are additional victims or connections between the cases.
